Tamanna School

5 Indian artists worked with XXL Collective at Tamanna School - institute of learning for specially-abled children - to wrap the walls of the school with a visual journey around the theme of ‘Imperfection’.

Nothing in nature is perfect and that's the beauty of it. Thus here air, water, earth and fire become the starting point for the artists to build their compositions and investigate the theme.  Also, those elements gave the opportunity to accordingly colour code the walls which became a system of navigation within the school for its students.

A playful composition in the dining room and entrance enlighten these areas, making the whole school a work of art that everyday communicates with the students in different and stimulating ways

Raghav Bhalla

Raghav is known for his child-like painting style, which highlights the playful and adventurous side of art towards grounds with no limits. The artist broke down “earth” by painting gigantic elements from nature at their messest best.

Kashmira Sarode

Continuing the fluidity from water, Kashmira painted on the theme of ‘air’, depicting soft and seemingly weightless organisms flying around three walls of the courtyard. With a soft color palette, the artist wanted to make this mural approachable for the kids, almost by inviting them to touch and find the miniature versions of themselves floating within it.

Harith Puram

Harith’s mural transforms the entrance wall of the school into an aquarium - showing several beautiful elements from the under-water world. A boy features inside, swimming alongside the creatures, reminding the kids the value of having a special connection with nature and also immersing them into the safe environment of the school right from its entrance

Kamesh Bhagatji

While painting in the passage opposite to Raghav’s work, Kamesh showcased an alternate side of “fire”. Within his universe, kids play in a forest that is beaming with colours of natural light as well as with fire-flies. The artist relied on turning a potentially scary element into a poetic source of energy.
