Level Shoes

Located in Dubai, Level Shoes is a globally recognized retail concept, dedicated to the world of designer footwear. XXL collaborated with the brand for their campaign ‘Dear India’, a project centred around the traditions and cultures of our country.

Artist Shilo Shiv Suleman went to Dubai to create a mural inside the store’s premises. In her mural, Suleman explored the idea of ‘shringaar’ or ‘adornment’ - an ancient act of self-ornamentation, through the painting of an Indian bride. 

Counted as one of the nine ‘rasas’ (‘flavours’), ‘sringaar’ translates as ‘romantic love’ or as ‘attraction and beauty’. The theory of rasa is the primary concept behind many classical Indian arts including theatre, music, dance, poetry, and sculpture.
